At Vermont Timber Works we receive many requests for information regarding our timber frames. How much do they cost? (more than conventional) How long does it take? (3-4 months) Will Vermont Timber Works raise the frame? (of course) Can my general contractor handle the raising? (maybe) Why is your hand crafted better than a machined timbers? (if you want custom, you want hand crafted) So many questions! Well, we don't mind the questions and are happy to provide answers. This way you can decide for yourself if our high quality, hand crafted timber frame is right for you.

Choosing your timber frame & timber framer...

Do you want a timber frame home or barn or building? If so the first major decision to make is who to choose as your timber framer. Someone to trust with your post and beam dream. Budget is important also as a custom hand crafted frame with be more of an investment than a machine milled package deal. Does your floor plan include a great room with a cathedral ceiling? Lots and lots of windows for your fabulous view? Maybe something like this...

At Vermont Timber Works we have over 20 years experience designing, fabricating and raising timber frames. If you are not sure what you want but have some ideas, I'm sure that we can help. If you know exactly what you want, we'll make sure it becomes just what you envision.

Timber Framing can be Chilly Work...in Vermont.

Especially today, the coldest day of the season, so far that is. Our shop does have some heat, but when it's this cold, the guys really need to bundle up.

Luckily we are not raising a frame in this below zero weather! Looks like the next project being raised by Vermont Timber Works will be the Lake Taghkanic Bathhouse in New York State. (January 2008).

Below is a beautiful photo of Mark Jupiter's finished post & beam home, I thought you would enjoy this winter scene.

A Custom Designed Timber Frame...each time!

OK, so we custom design each timber frame and hand craft each timber.......what's so special about that? Quite a lot actually. This means we can be very creative and are not as restricted. Each project is unique and our engineer, Peter Zelonis, makes sure that what we design will work, so no worries there. (thank you Pete!). From the initial contact, through raising the frame, each project is special. Vermont Teddy Bear.....need I say more?

Check back often for more photo's and info about us, and timber framing in general!
